calibrate your monitor
To enable viewing the full tonality range of the pictures on this web site your monitor should be calibrated.
The image to the right contains four squares. A small dark gray square in the middle of the black square and a small light gray square in the middle of the white square. Brightness and contrast should be adjusted so that both the smaller squares are visible.
A good starting point is to set the contrast to 100% and then adjust the brightness until the squares become visible. Some iterations may be required on both contrast and brightness. However, to get the most out of your monitor I recommend using a professional calibration tool.
